Cathedral Arts Project (CAP) was founded in 1985 to
promote and celebrate the performing and visual arts
through the unique setting of Saint Cecilia's Cathedral.
This concept dates back to the Middle Ages when cathedrals
were erected as awe-inspiring monuments to God at the
heart of the city. Those cathedrals also became the
heart of the community's culture.
It was there that artists and musicians presented their
master works and dramatists produced mystery and morality
plays to teach and entertain. This vibrant tradition
provided the inspiration for renewing this concept for
celebrating the arts in Omaha's historic Saint Cecilia's
Cathedral. Throughout these past 16 years, many have
come to know CAP as "that wonderful flower show
in the dead of winter." While over 15,000 people
annually visit the Flower Festival, many more are coming
to know us as the organization that brings to Omaha
such world-renown groups like Dave Brubeck, the Vienna
Boys Choir and Grammy award winning Chanticleer.
An integral part of our philosophy is to share the arts
with the entire community regardless of one's ability
to pay. Although reserved seating is available at some
events, admission to all events is free to the general
public. Our world-class programming is made possible
by our patrons, sponsors and special grants. Although
events take place in Omaha's St. Cecilia's Cathedral,
CAP is an interfaith-based organization. We receive
no funding from the Cathedral parish or the Archdiocese
of Omaha. Our guiding Board of Directors contains members
of many creeds and cultures in the Omaha community,
interested in meeting our mission: "To promote
the performing and visual arts which uplift and challenge
the human spirit." Come to the Cathedral! The great
bronze doors are open to welcome you.
